Despite strong evidence supporting the effectiveness of workplace health promotion, male employees often find these programs unappealing and irrelevant to masculine ideals of strength and self-reliance.
Based on the preferences of men in male-dominated industries and emerging approaches in men’s health promotion, we designed and implemented a novel workplace health promotion program called POWERPLAY.
In this presentation we describe the program design, outcomes, and evaluation based on feedback from employees and workplace implementation leads. Our experiences point to the importance of gender-sensitive workplace health promotion approaches to fit men’s needs and preferences.
